Letter from the Mossad Director
For over seven decades, the Mossad has been bolstering Israel's security and protecting Jews worldwide.
We are an organization rooted in the days of Israel's establishment. In its early days, the Mossad numbered a few dozen exceptional men and women, who worked around the world with courage, wisdom, and great talent, pursuing disruption and intelligence operations, most of which have never been exposed, but whose effect on Israel's security and resilience has been incalculable.
Over the years, the Mossad has expanded and developed, improving its MOs and operational and technological capabilities in accordance with the challenges of global trends and changing threats, with which the State of Israel is still required to contend. Mossad staffers and commanders toil night and day in the shadows, beyond the borders of Israel.
We operate whenever and wherever necessary with courage, wisdom, and determination.
We act with ingenuity and creativity, in accordance with the Mossad values of integrity, secrecy, and a sense of national vocation.
Human capital is the source of the Mossad's strength!
In order to carry out our many tasks, we must join forces both within the Mossad and with all the security bodies of the State of Israel.
We will continue to operate with a sense of responsibility, love for our country, and commitment to Israel's security and resilience.
This is the source of our pride.
This is our mission, now and forever.
"Where there is no wise direction, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."(Proverbs 11, 14)

Purpose and Responsibilities
The institute for Intelligence and Special Operations (Mossad) is a national organization responsible for covert activity abroad. This involves collecting intelligence and carrying out special operations to neutralize threats and exert influence in order to reinforce the security of the State of Israel, and pursue its national goals in accordance with its laws and values.
The Mossad strives to realize its goals by gathering information using methods such as recruiting and handling sources (HUMINT), collection from communications sources (SIGINT), cyber activity, and operations worldwide.
The Mossad cooperates with all Israeli security and intelligence bodies, and has developed intelligence ties with other intelligence services over the years, as is customary in the intelligence world.
The Mossad is responsible for:
Foiling threats involving CBRN and advanced military weapons: In the sixties, the Mossad worked to prevent Egypt from developing SSM with the assistance of Nazi scientists; led disruption of Iraq's efforts during Saddam Hussein's era to become a nuclear power; and provided the information that enabled the attack on the nuclear reactor built by Syria. It has been working in recent years to thwart Iran's efforts to obtain a nuclear weapon.
Neutralizing terror threats against Israeli and Jewish targets abroad: The Mossad began contending with Palestinian terror in the 1960s, and in the 1970s, it assumed responsibility for foiling Palestinian terror abroad. Over the years, the focus has shifted to curbing ongoing global terror efforts by Iran and Hezbollah, and contending with the terror threat from Global Jihad organizations and Palestinian organizations abroad.
Developing and promoting special covert ties, including with entities and countries that do not have diplomatic ties with Israel. The Mossad is deeply involved in expanding Israel's political and security partnerships, and promoting normalization and peaceful relations. Some of these ties have been publicized, such as the Mossad's assistance to Israel's leaders in the covert negotiations that preceded the peace agreements with Egypt and Jordan, and the Abraham Accords with Morocco, Sudan, and the Gulf States.
Rescuing Jewish communities from dangerous locations and disadvantaged countries and bringing them to Israel. This has been one of the Mossad's key special missions over the years. The Mossad was at the forefront of the efforts to protect the Jews of Morocco in the 1950s and 1960s and arrange for their covert emigration, helped bring Ethiopian Jews to Israel via Sudan in a series of measures culminating in Operation Moses, and carried out extensive activity to extricate Jews from Arab countries and Iran during the periods when they were persecuted and prohibited from making aliyah to Israel.
Special tasks: Over the years the Mossad has used its capabilities and infrastructure to pursue special missions on behalf of Israel, from the capture of Nazi criminal Adolph Eichmann in the 1960s, to the recent assistance to the national effort to contend with coronavirus pandemic.
The Mossad works tirelessly on force buildup, developing human capital, and expanding the infrastructure and capabilities required for its covert activity, and to ensure its intelligence, operational, and technological edge.
Mossad Vision
The Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations will lead covert activity abroad with courage, wisdom, and ingenuity to collect intelligence, foil threats, and exert influence for the security of the State of Israel and the Jewish people.
The Mossad will recruit the best candidates from all strata of society, who will act with a sense of supreme mission, in accordance with the Mossad's values, strive for excellence, and turn dreams into reality.

Izkor
The people of Israel will remember their sons and daughters,
the faithful and the brave,
the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces and
all the fighters of the undergrounds and
the combat units in the battles of Israel and
the people of the intelligence, security, police
and prison service communities who sacrificed their lives
in the war for the rebirth of Israel, and all who have
been murdered in Israel and abroad
by murderers from terror organizations.
The people of Israel will remember and be blessed by
their example, and mourn the beauty of youth, the heroic
passion, the sacred will and the self-sacrifice of those who have perished.
May the victorious fallen soldiers of the battles of Israel be engraved in
the heart of Israel forever.
